There’s no place like Melbourne and CAMS is incredibly excited about being able to hold our 2016 conference in this exciting, vibrant and forward-thinking locality. The conference staff has all organized some time off either side of the conference to ensure we sample all the wonders that are on offer and strongly suggest that you do too.
For the lovers of good food, you can’t get any better than the city that is sandwiched in between the Yarra and Port Phillip Bay. Whatever you want, you’ll be able to find it here. If you want good, traditional Italian food head to Lygon Streeet. The waiters all speak Italian and you can even head to 400Gradi to sample the Margherita that was voted as the best in the whole world.
If you love dumplings, head to Chinatown. You can’t miss it as you walk up Swanston Street and come across the grand Arch that seems to be gateway into another world. Head into Shanghai Dumplings, which must almost be the busiest restaurant in the world and for under $20 you’ll be treated with plate after plate of incredible dumplings.
There’s always live music on somewhere in Melbourne. The Corner Hotel in Richmond has been housing some of the finest bands in the world for years now and is an iconic location. Go for a wander up and down Brunswick St. in Fitzroy and you’re sure to hear something you like.
For the lovers of fashion, Chapel St. is just a short train ride away. Catch the train from Flinders St. to South Yarra and you’ll see shop after shop of high fashion, there’s also plenty to eat there too. Head to Gertrude St. in Fitzroy for boutique labels and plenty of stores that promote fashion with a conscience or marvel at the architectural wonder that is the Emporium. The Emporium, Melbourne Central and Bourke Street all link up into one dizzying row of retail goodness.
If the city isn’t your thing take a day tour out to one of the many wine regions that surround Melbourne, head down to Phillip Island for the best fish and chips in the world or hire a car and go for a cruise down the Great Ocean Road.
